Calscience Environmental Laboratories
Calscience is a testing laboratory servicing the environmental engineering company. They provide reliable data and help their customers meet their goals in terms of project profitability and timely completion.
Challenge:
Because of the unpredicatable nature of their business environment and the ever-growing changes of laws and procedures of how to conduct environmental tests, they were in need of a team of software developers to help with this dynamic nature head on. They needed software that would be constantly updated to meet the requirements of the industry. Their LIMS system had to be flexible enough to meet their industry demands.
Solution:
This is an on going project whereby we are constantly designing and developing various types of software and tools to make their job more efficient and quick. We also work with their clients in order to gain a better understanding of what the best possible solution is.
We have implemented various programs that help with automatic PDF document generation with high a security web accessibility system, automatic work order printing flow system, QC Chart generation, instrument data loading systems, enhanced invoicing, CRM system, EDD generation, RWQCB report generation, Summa Can Maintenance with a control system, and so much more.
Proper design was of the essence since all aspects of their daily business operations are intricately entwined with one another.
Numerous technologies were implemented such as Java, Delphi, and .Net. Their RDBMS is running MS SQL 2000.
Since implementing a much more efficient and quick LIMS system, Calscience has managed to increase their revenue 5 times more than they had in 1997, and have only needed to double their workforce.

Cubic Science
Cubicscience provides online tutoring service to K12 students in the area of science and math. They are also a software company that develops 3D graphic educational software. Their goal is to create software that will visually stimulate and spark a student’s curiosity to learn.
Challenge:
They needed a solution for a specific division of their company that taught students math. They needed a web site that would allow students to enter various equations and have it show step by step how the solution of the equation came about. This of course can be extremely complicated since Mathematics is so dynamic in its nature and the steps involved with solving equations can get very lengthy. Overall they basically needed an interactive math tutoring exercises.
Solution:
We implemented a web site that could take various equations but put limits as to how complicated an equation can be. This would stop a student from entering equations that could show a more complicated process than originally needed. Since the target audience is elementary and jr. high classes this was a necessary limitation. The website was implemented with an application on the backend that would do all the calculations. Various algebraic rules such as Factorials, Associative & Distributive Property, Prime Factorization, GCF & LCM, Scientific Notation, Laws of Exponents, and Logarithms had application functions that would generate the solution and its steps to get to that solution in HTML output.
Visual Basic was used to create the ActiveX Dll’s and ASP for the web interface.
Challenge:
They had a need to create an online classroom through the web. Basic functions had to include the ability to chat and have a white board that you were able to type or draw on and have all users in that classroom view the whiteboard with specific delegation controls by the teacher.
Solution:
We carefully designed a web application that had an application server on the backend that handled all the controls of communications between teacher and student.
The application server was developed using Java and the web interface was developed using a java applet.
Numerous functions were implemented whereby students could virtually “raise their hand” before any of their questions or drawings would be publicized on the white board. Once a teacher approved of the question or drawing, the teacher would be able to push the objects to all the remaining students. Several graphic buttons were available to help with drawing certain shapes. Multiple classrooms could be created and running at the same time using threading technology.

KopyKat
Kopy Kat provides subpoena and mobile photocopy services statewide in California with affiliations throughout the United States.
Challenge:
They needed a system that allowed them to store documents online and allow specific user access with a high security system. PDF streaming had to be secure and invisible to the user as to where the document is stored.
Solution:
We came up with a design for multi-tier document management system utilizing Microsoft .Net and SQL 2000 Server. Using Delphi to create the application, our client was able to manage documents, users, and their companies. The system would also notify users when they were allowed to view specific documents via email. The application allowed web users to login and see only the documents they were allowed to see and would be streamed to them in PDF format through a web browser. All content was protected with 128 bit encryption to ensure secure transmission of these highly sensitive documents.

Allergy Immuno Technologies, Inc.(AIT)
AIT is a subdivision of BioAmerica. They are a clinical reference laboratory for allergy and other diagnostic testing services for physicians, other laboratories and pharmaceutical companies.
Challenge:
They required a conversion of their old allergy database system to something newer, more robust, and maintainable. The old system was a DOS based application running off a Dbase engine. They had very rigid budgetary concerns so we had to come up with an effective solution they could afford.
Solution:
The program was rewritten using Microsoft Access for its GUI front end and its database. The old program was reverse engineered from its reports and tables since there was no source code to figure out how the whole program functioned. The new system allowed a user to enter specific allergy information per patient and also had the flexibility to add more allergy food categories than they were able to before.

Gamut
Challenge:
Gamut needed specific reports that their accounting package, Peachtree, was unable to retrieve nor design in the way they needed. They were looking for a way to be able to compare current sales person activity against the previous year, so that they could monitor their progress and how close they are to their monthly quotas.
Solution:
Using a crystal report plugin for peachtree, we were able to design a very specific report that they were looking for to allow them to be able to compare sales people tracking through out the year against the previous year.

Homefield Financial
Homefield Financial is a mortgage company based in southern California. They have had a 100% annual growth rate since its inception in 1998. Due to their growth they implemented a more robust and secure mortgage/loan officer program but lacked the reporting system needed to monitor their progress.
Challenge:
They needed an automatic system that would generate status reports to the various users such as the loan officers, underwriters, closers, and their respective managers. They need also a reporting system that they could manually trigger at their own convenience through their existing Loan Mortgage software.
Solution:
Their existing software, LoanSoft, was primarily html and vbscript driven with a Microsoft SQL Server database backend. We implemented a reporting system using a Crystal Enterprise reporting engine interfaced directly with their LoanSoft software package. Within a secured environment this allowed every user to generate relevant information about themselves and their status of leads and loans. Managers were able to get information about all users in their team. All aspects were dependent on the login rights of the user and what access groups they belonged to.
The automated system was set up dynamically so that an administrator had full control over what reports to generate and at a scheduled time. Reports were generated in PDF format and emailed to the specific user. The administrator also had to the ability to assign users to specific reports. If needed scheduled reporting jobs could be cancelled during run time as well as generated manually at any given moment and immediately emailed.

City of Yorba Linda, California
Challenge:
The City of Yorba Linda needed a customized system that involved tracking city utility problems. There were budgetary concerns so we had to come up with a realistic solution that met their requirements.
Solution:
We developed their system in Microsoft Access since the scale of their database was fairly small and a need for a RDBMS solution was not necessary. We implemented numerous features whereby in the multi-user problem tracking systems users are able to create incident records, assign proper departments and dispatch maintenance crews, monitor the status of all incidents, and generate summary reports.
Challenge:
They were in need of a system by which they could monitor budget allocations for projects and track the progress of expenses for each project.
Solution:
We designed a project management system using Delphi and had a MS SQL Server to store all the information. From the specifications there was no need to implement a project planning module. The primary concern was to track only the expenses and make sure that they stayed within budget.
The solution provided to them allowed the city employees to create projects, log every activity associated with a project that would incur expenses, and warn users when the costs started exceeding the budget limit.

Oliver Twist
Oliver Twist is a chimney service company that is involved with servicing heaters and air-conditioner ducts, and chimneys.
Challenge:
They required a CRM solution that was very user friendly. Off the shelf packages were considered too complex for their needs, so we had to come up with a product that they felt comfortable using and required as little training time as possible. They also needed to be able to generate simple invoices for their clients through the same program.
Solution:
We designed a simple CRM program using Microsoft Access as its database backend. The program gave them all the functions that they needed in order to keep track of their customers as well as generate invoices.

Meterman
Meterman is a meter billing contractor for mobile home parks. They perform hydrant testing and maintanence services, Gas Leak Survey, Cathodic Protection, and Emergency Repairs for the Orange County, California area.
Challenge:
They were in need of an updated Windows based billing system that would replace their old DOS based paradox application. There were continual problems trying to run under DOS emulations that they had an immediate need to get a fully functional replacement with some additional features to make the program more efficient.
Solution:
We reengineered their existing program under a Windows environment using Delphi. There application needed to be rolled out to their clients as well, so we created a self-install of the application so that installation could be done with ease.
